Our History

The Men’s Shed movement began in Australia in 1996. Ireland’s first shed was established in Tipperary town in 2009 followed closely by Kerry’s first shed in Killarney in 2011. We thank the Kerry Mental Health Association for providing us with a state of the art building at nominal rent.

In 2013 the Men’s Shed in Ireland received recognition at the highest level when our President Michael D. Higgins became patron of the Ireland Men’s Shed Association.

Members of Men’s Shed’s are known as shedders. The most important thing in our shed is the tea/coffee pot.
